This peach smoothie is loaded with superfoods and vitamins. It’s the perfect late afternoon – out on the front porch – soaking up the last days of summer – concoction. Doesn’t that sound nice?!

1 large peach cut into chunks
1/2 c milk (almond milk, skim milk…)
1 scoop Protein Essentials Collagen
1 t chia seeds
1/4 t maca
2 ice cubes

Add all the ingredients to a blender and process until desired consistency is achieved.

Pro tip: Add the milk first, then add the chia seeds. Let the chia seeds hang out in the milk while you cut up the peach. This will increase the chia seeds bioavailability.

Following a Gluten-Free or Paleo diet? Beware of Whey

For those suffering from gluten intolerance or following a paleo diet, finding the right food can be challenging. Many foods which appear to be gluten free, like gum, salad dressing, toothpaste and soy sauce, have sneaky additives derived from gluten. Protein supplements are no exception.

Whey Protein is one of the most popular supplements for athletes and the health conscious alike. It’s been proven to help people achieve quick muscle gains and speed up recovery. However, by using whey you might be unknowingly sacrificing your gluten free diet.

In its natural form whey, which comes from dairy, is completely gluten free. Unfortunately, as the whey is processed, many brands add gluten. “Glutamine” is the sneaky name for the most commonly used gluten additive. Other words to look out for on whey labels are starch, malt sugar, wheat, barley, rye, caramel color, dextrin, and maltodextrin (1). Cross-contamination is also something to be cautious of, as whey manufacturers may process wheat products at their facilities. Carefully reviewing the product’s label can help you determine if the product is safe for your consumption.

Fortunately, there is a great alternative to whey protein. At Protein Essentials, our products are gluten and dairy free, meaning you can still get the muscle gains and health benefits you want, without sacrificing your gluten free or paleo diet. Unlike whey protein which is derived from milk, collagen is the main protein found in the connective tissue of animals, making it an excellent hypoallergenic protein supplement. Make the switch to Peptan® Hydrolyzed Collagen today, after all it’s A Paleo Superfood™.

Protein Essentials is Fun for the Whole Family!

Protein Essentials isn’t just for athletes, it’s for the entire family. Make Protein Essentials part of your family’s day with our fun, easy, and delicious recipes. The easiest and tastiest way to incorporate Protein Essentials into your family’s diet is through drinks. Smoothies are a great way to satisfy even the most picky taste buds. Today’s recipe comes straight from Katy’s Kitchen, our recipe headquarters here at Protein Essentials. We bring you The Fat Elvis smoothie.

Elvis Presley loved fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. If you ever go to Memphis, TN you can get one at most of the local restaurants as homage to The King.  Back home, however, you can have a tasty and healthier version that will make you want to shake your hips and sing. Here is how you rock it:

What You’ll Need:

1 Scoop of Protein Essentials Hydrolyzed Collagen

1 whole banana

2 Tablespoons of your favorite peanut butter or almond butter

1/2 cup skim milk or non dairy milk product

2 ice cubes

Add the contents to a powerful blender like a Vitamix. With the blender off,  add the wet ingredients first, peanut butter next, then break the banana into a few sections and put in the first section after that. Put the lid on the blender and turn it on medium. When you see that it is blending well add the rest of the banana and turn the blender to a higher setting. Once the contents are in a relatively liquid state, add the 2 tablespoons of Protein Essentials Hydrolyzed Collagen. Turn the blender to high and get the ice cubes. Put in one ice cube at a time and turn the blender to crush. Wait until most of the previous ice cube is thoroughly crushed before putting in the second ice cube. Blend to your desired consistency. Pour in a tall glass get a straw and enjoy! Makes about 14 oz and contains approximately 180 calories per 8 ounces.
